Aravah Chaiken, an eighth grade student at Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School, recently won four Regional Scholastic Awards for her writing.
Her Critical Essay, “Cell Out: How the Medical Community Cheated Henrietta Lacks,” won a Gold Key, making it automatically under consideration for recognition at the national level. Her short story, “Book Witch,” and Science Fiction and Fantasy piece, “DragonWings,” both won Silver Key awards. Additionally, her piece, “Meet the New Power Rangers: The Black Mambas” won Honorable Mention in the journalism category.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Notable past recipients include authors Joyce Carol Oates, Sylvia Plath and John Updike.
