So, what exactly is an “Aha” moment? At the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School (an NYC Jewish Day School), we love to shed light on any special moment that takes place in our classrooms. This could involve a child helping another child, a special educational project, an inspirational moment, and/or an engaging and entertaining activity. These “Aha” moments are ones that are so special, we can’t resist sharing them with the world.
Not only are we trying to shed light on these special moments, but we are also hoping to inspire others. Whether these moments inspire you to do an act of kindness for another, bring home (or into the classroom if you’re a teacher) an educational project, or it just makes you smile, these moments are geared to spread positivity.
So, let’s delve into today’s “Aha” moments:
Two teachers at the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School (an NYC Jewish Day School) discuss one of these moments that involves a student named Max learning how to spell his name.
Max, one of our students, spent all year working on the “X” in his name. One day we made a box and showed him that he could make an “X” by connecting the corners of the box. One day, Max had discovered on his own that he could make the “X” without the box. He was so proud that he went around to show everyone what he had learned.

Two other preschool teachers at the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School discuss one of these moments that involves a special in-class art project, which involved baking challah.
One special moment we had involved making special challahs related to different Judaic topics we learned throughout the year. One of the special ones we made was a big challah in the shape of a tree for Tu B’shvat. The students made sure the challah had branches, leaves, a trunk, and even roots.

Hopefully, these “Aha” moments provide you some entertainment and/or inspiration for a future classroom project.
